To reach Mcleodganj you have to reach Dharamsala first. The easiest way and cheapest to reach here is to take an A/c or Non- A/c bus from Delhi which will take you 12 to 14 hrs.

 

You can also reach Dharamshala via airways and can reach Kangra Airport.

Most people prefer the roadways because of the hilly, greenery views and flights operate only from a few cities.

 

The distance between Mcleodganj and Dharamshala is 7 km. It is situated above Dharamshala at 2,082 m height from sea level whereas Dharamshala is at 1457m height. The view while traveling from Dharamshala to Mcleodganj is something you will die to see.

 

Take a bus from the Dharamshala bus stand and within 15 to 30 minutes you can reach Mcleodganj by spending just Rs.20

 

If you are an adventure lover you can also take the Dharamshala skyway which is a 1,8 km ropeway to Mcleodganj. You can reach your destination in just 10 minutes and it will cost you Rs 300 for one way and Rs 500 for both ways.

Buddhist Temple

This temple you can view as soon as you reach the main market.

You can spend some time to get peace of mind and can even do meditation if you like to.

 

Bhagsunath Water Falls 

Situated 1.5 km far from the main market you can reach the Bhagsunath waterfall by walking. On the way, you can see Dharamshala and Mcleodganj town from the top. You can also drink the natural spring water from the shops nearby.

You have to trek for a distance of 500 meters to reach the waterfall. The view of the fall after a tiring trek is really amazing. Swimming or taking bath in the fall is strictly prohibited.

If you are coming in winter you can view the snow-filled mountains everywhere. 

 

Bhagsunag Temple

It is close to the waterfall. People love to spend some time hereto get the positive vibe of the temple along with the natural beauty.

 

Dalai lama Temple

This is the famous temple in Mcleodganj where you will find tourists every time of the year. This temple is open from 9 am in the morning and till 5 pm you can go inside for visit. If you really want to know the Buddhist culture and their philosophy you can contact them to get an education here. If you are lucky enough you can meet the Dalai lama if he is available and free.

 

Triund

The Triund trek starts from Dharamkot . You can take any local vehicle to reach and then you have to reach Gallu temple which is 3,5 km from Dharamkot. From there you have to trek for 6 km to reach Triund.

You can have food while trekking as well. You can view a jungle full of Deodar trees and listen to the bird's sounds while trekking. To reach the hilltop it will take a maximum of 3 hrs and you will be at 2875m in height.

St. John in the WildernesChurch

Present inside the dense jungle this Church will take you to the old Hollywood movies.

If you are going in the evening or early morning this place will be filled with fog. The church is as beautiful as the scenery surrounding it.



Dal Lake

Situated at a distance of 3 km from the city market Dal lake is a must-visit place for nature lovers. If you really love the place and surrounding and you are fit enough to walk the distance then I would suggest going by road enjoying the view, and talking to the locals as you will find all most all monks walking rather than going in a vehicle. Because of the view of water Dal Lake is the best to take pictures for making the trip memorable.

If you are lucky enough you can enjoy the snowfall which mostly happens in the nighttime. But make sure you are waking up early in the next morning to bit the traffic. It is too risky to travel in this weather as well with the snowfall and snow-filled slippery roads.

 

Food

Momos, Thukpa, Bok Choy Soup, Thenthuck, Tibetan Noodles, Tingmo, Tibetan bread, Pastries, and whatnot. These all are authentic Tibetan recipes that you can easily get in any cafe available in the market area of Mcleodganj.
