What Makes Nanemachi Waterfall Trek Special ?

Nanemachi is more than a quick roadside waterfall visit. The experience begins with an early morning walk through rural surroundings before entering a green forest trail that becomes more atmospheric during the monsoon.

The waterfall drops through a dramatic rock formation surrounded by dense greenery and mist. Its natural setting, forest approach and comparatively short core trail make it appealing to first-time trekkers who want a rewarding waterfall experience without a long fort climb.

Another major highlight is the planned visit to Saatsada Waterfall after lunch. This gives participants the opportunity to experience two monsoon waterfalls during the same trip, subject to time, rainfall and safe route access.

Best Time To Visit Nanemachi Waterfall

June

The forest begins turning green as rainfall increases. Waterfall flow depends on the progress of the monsoon.

July to September

This is generally the strongest period for waterfall flow, dense greenery and misty landscapes. It is also the period when slippery terrain, heavy rainfall and rising streams require the greatest caution.

October

Waterfall flow may continue during early October, while rainfall can be lower on some days. Conditions depend on the monsoon received that year.

Important:

Nanemachi should not be described as guaranteed to remain open throughout the monsoon. Every departure is subject to rainfall, stream levels, road access, forest instructions and local administrative orders.

A: Nanemachi Waterfall is approximately 200–240 km from Mumbai, depending on the pickup point and road route. The overnight road journey generally takes around 5–7 hours, subject to traffic, rainfall, road conditions and the final pickup location.

Q3. How can I reach Nanemachi Waterfall from Mumbai?

A: Travellers can join the TrekHievers Mumbai-to-Mumbai AC bus package from scheduled pickup points. Independent travellers can select the base-village option and report near Gugulshi at the exact location and time shared before departure.

Q4. What are the Mumbai pickup points for Nanemachi Waterfall Trek?

A: The scheduled route currently includes Borivali National Park, Samta Nagar in Kandivali, Goregaon, Andheri, Bandra, Sion, Ghatkopar–Mankhurd Link Road, Vashi, Nerul, Kharghar and Kalamboli. Final timings and reporting locations are shared with confirmed participants.

Q5. What is the height of Nanemachi Waterfall?

A: Nanemachi Waterfall is commonly described as approximately 400–410 feet high. This refers to the approximate height of the waterfall, not the depth of the pool below it.

Q6. Why does the Nanemachi Waterfall pool look blue or green?

A: The pool can appear blue, turquoise or green depending on daylight, cloud cover, water clarity, surrounding vegetation and the colour of the underlying rock. The exact appearance changes with rainfall, weather and viewing conditions.

Q7. What is the total walking distance of Nanemachi Waterfall Trek?

A: TrekHievers currently lists the core jungle trail at approximately 1.7 km. Because the bus may stop before the trailhead, an additional approach walk of about 2 km may be required. The final walking distance can vary according to parking access, rainfall and local route instructions.

A: The current itinerary allows approximately 5–5.5 hours from the morning trek start until the group returns to the base area. This includes the approach walk, jungle trail, time at the waterfall, rest breaks and the return walk.

Q9. What is the difficulty level of Nanemachi Waterfall Trek?

A: The core Nanemachi trail is graded easy, but the overall experience requires medium endurance. The approach walk, wet forest terrain, rocks, mud, seasonal streams and long overnight travel schedule make it more demanding than a simple sightseeing visit.

Q10. Can beginners join Nanemachi Waterfall Trek from Mumbai?

A: Yes. Fit beginners and first-time trekkers can join because the core trail is relatively short and does not involve technical climbing. Participants should still be comfortable walking for several hours in rain and on uneven or slippery ground.

Q11. What fitness level is required for Nanemachi Waterfall Trek?

A: Participants should be able to walk continuously for several hours and manage wet rocks, mud and forest paths. Regular walking, stair climbing, cycling or light cardio before the trek is recommended, especially for first-time trekkers.

Q12. What is the best time to visit Nanemachi Waterfall?

A: Nanemachi is primarily a monsoon and early post-monsoon waterfall trek. July to September usually offers stronger waterfall flow and greener surroundings, while June and October depend more heavily on the rainfall received that year.

Q13. Is Nanemachi Waterfall open during heavy rain?

A: Access cannot be guaranteed during heavy rain. The route may be modified, postponed or cancelled because of rising streams, poor road conditions, landslide risk, forest restrictions or instructions from local authorities. Participants should confirm the current status before travelling.

Q14. Is Nanemachi Waterfall Trek safe during the monsoon?

A: The trek can be managed safely when participants wear proper footwear, remain with the group and follow trek-leader instructions. However, no monsoon trek is completely risk-free because water levels, slippery rocks, visibility and weather can change quickly.

Q15. Can participants swim in the Nanemachi Waterfall pool?

A: No. Swimming, diving or entering the deep pool below Nanemachi Waterfall is not permitted during the organised trek. Participants must remain within the safe viewing area selected by the trek leaders and local guides.

Q16. What type of terrain is found on the Nanemachi trek?

A: The route includes an approach walk, village paths, open patches, dense forest, wet soil, rocks and seasonal stream sections. The terrain is mostly manageable, but it can become muddy and slippery after rainfall.

Q17. Is a guide necessary for Nanemachi Waterfall Trek?

A: Joining an experienced guide or organised group is strongly recommended during the monsoon. Forest conditions, stream levels, parking access and local instructions can change, and the TrekHievers package includes guide and trek-leader support.

Q18. Does the Nanemachi package include Saatsada Waterfall?

A: Yes. The current itinerary includes a visit to Saatsada Waterfall, also written as Satsada Waterfall, after lunch. This visit remains subject to weather, available time, route access and the trek leaders’ safety decision.

Q19. Is Nanemachi Waterfall Trek suitable for solo travellers and solo women?

A: Yes. Solo travellers and solo women can join the scheduled group departure. Participants travel and trek with the organised group and receive final coordination details through the pre-departure WhatsApp group.

Q20. Can children and families join Nanemachi Waterfall Trek?

A: Children should join only with a parent or responsible guardian and after their walking ability, comfort with rain and overall fitness have been considered. Confirm TrekHievers’ current minimum-age requirement before booking.

A: The Mumbai-to-Mumbai package is currently listed at ₹1,599 per person, while the base-village package is ₹799 per person. An additional 5% GST applies. Travellers should check the live booking calendar for current prices and availability.

Q23. What should I carry for Nanemachi Waterfall Trek?

A: Carry government-issued photo ID, trekking shoes with strong grip, rainwear, a waterproof backpack or rain cover, 2–3 litres of water, energy snacks, personal medicines, a torch, extra socks, a towel, spare clothes and a waterproof pouch for your phone and valuables.

Q24. Are toilets, food and mobile network available on the trek?

A: Breakfast with tea and vegetarian lunch are included. Basic toilet facilities may be available near the village, but not throughout the forest trail. Mobile connectivity can be weak or unavailable, so important calls should be completed before the trek begins.
